The build up to Spielberg's 'American Idol' meets 'Project Greenlight' show, 'On The Lot' has been impressive.  Lots of hype, lots of buzz, lots of people really interested in what the show is going to look like on screen.  Turns out that not that many people were all that interested in a bunch of film-nerds trying to impress William Friedkin, because last night the 'Dancing With The Stars' finale absolutely tromped the 'On The Lot' premiere.

The 'Dancing With The Stars' finale pulled in ratings of 14.6/22, while 'On The Lot' barely scratched the paint with a 5.4/8 (and yes, those numbers mean nothing to me either).  This is bad news for 'On The Lot', but optimistic bad news.  It was a poor idea for the dimwits at FOX to put a brand new show up against the finale of a fan-favorite, no matter what kind of buzz was coming off 'On The Lot'.  Sure it's a Spielberg production from the guy who does 'Survivor' and it's a new, fresh idea, but still, 'Dancing With The Stars' is a bonafide juggernaut and FOX made a huge mistake.  Along with that, 'On The Lot' is a summer show and who really watches non-HBO summer shows?  Anyone?

But, with that said, I still think 'On The Lot' has a chance.  The whole 'Dancing With The Stars' finale started everything off bad, but word-of-mouth on the show is good.  Next week when the fat Americans of the world can't stuff their face with Cheetos and watch Joey Fatone wield a lightsaber, they'll turn to something else popcorny and lacking in content, such as a reality show about filmmakers produced by Steven Spielberg.

So, Stevie-poo you can put away your hankie, cause next week will be better.  Well as long as no one notices that your show had it's ass kicked by 'Jesse Stone: Sea Change'  also.......
