Reality TV > "Flavor of Love" and "I Love New York" fake? No duh

May 1, 2007

Via Media Take Out:

A "Vh1 insider" is telling the media that the Flava Flav-related shows "Flavor of Love" and "I Love New York" are fake. GASP! What?!

Says the "insider": "A group of young (and not so young) Hollywood fringe hopefuls signed contracts to appear on a televised acting contest, vying for the coveted position of phony reality show 'girlfriend' to 'Flava Flav'. The prize included a guaranteed reality show (Strange Love) and monetary compensation.

The long and short of it: "Flavor of Love" is the WWF of dating shows."

Having worked in production on several reality shows, I'm sorry to tell you that nearly every show is actually scripted, some to a greater degree than others. It's not that shocking, but it's the dirty little secret of reality programming. Contests and game shows still have to follow some regulation due to the quiz show scandals (yup, that "Quiz Show" movie is forrealz), but most everything involved in these shows is still concocted and skewed by the producers and stars.

Trust me, this is no biggie. But don't feel bad if you didn't see this one coming...they still want you to believe the shows are real.
